Spring is here! You’ve made it through another winter and hopefully so did your green friends. They are now starting to wake up from winter hibernation and they need your help getting ready for spring. Here are some tips on how to spring your plants into spring!
1. CHECK FOR PESTS!
Inspect your plants for pests and if you find any, get rid of them right away. This article will help you to identify pests and treat them.
2. TAKE THEM OUTSIDE!
If the temperature outside is 50 degrees or higher, it’s safe to take your plants outside. Whether it is a balcony, a backyard or a porch, your plants will love the fresh air and sunshine. It is also way more fun and way less mess to take care of your plants outside.
3. CLEAN THEM!
Use a faucet or a spray bottle to give your plants a nice shower to wash off all the dust they’ve accumulated. Be generous.
4. TRIM THEM!
Cut off any dry or half dry and droopy leaves. This will promote new growth and make your plants look even nicer.
5. REPOT THEM!
Spring is a perfect time to repot your plants. Get planters slightly bigger (1-2” bigger in diameter) than the ones that your plants are currently in and some new potting mix. Make sure to check the roots of the plants you are repotting and loosen them up if they are root bound. Some plants won’t need new pots but will still benefit from fresh soil. Fresh soil is full of nutrients and it will promote the plant’s health and growth.
6. FEED THEM!
Spring and summer are growing seasons and it is a good time to help your plants grow by giving them either plant food or fertilizer.
7. MOVE THEM!
If you’ve changed location of some of your plants in the fall to give them more light or keep them away from cold drafts, it might be a good time to move them back.
8. GIVE THEM A NEW BUDDY!
