This week we talked to Lore from Ghent, Belgium about her plant collection.
WATER & LIGHT (W&L) HOW DID YOU GET INTO PLANTS?
Lore(L): Spending lots of time at home I was looking for ways to make our house a home and for something that would keep me busy, but was also very relaxing. It started with one plant but it quickly became more and more.
W&L: DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN YOU GOT YOUR FIRST PLANT AND WHAT PLANT WAS IT?
L: The first plant I got was a succulent and it did not survive.
W&L: WHERE DO YOU GET MOST OF YOUR PLANTS?
L: I love going to local plant shops and just drive around to find new shops to visit.
W&L: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLANT SHOPS TO VISIT?
L: In Ghent I really love Little Green Stories. Their staff is always very friendly and help me finding plants I am looking for.
W&L: HOW MANY PLANTS DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR COLLECTION?
L: I think about 80, but I'm still adding to the collection. I think that will never stop. Sometimes I gift a plant that no longer makes me happy, and get a new one to fill the empty spot.
W&L: WHAT ARE THE RAREST PLANTS IN YOUR COLLECTION?
L: Maybe not very rare but this one was hard to find, My Philodendron Micans. I was looking for this one for a long time so I had to have two of them. And my Monstera variegata cutting.
W&L: WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE PLANTS?
L: I love all philodendrons and Epipremnum. They are so easy to care for, grow so fast and have the most beautiful foliage.
W&L: WHAT DO YOU LIKE THE MOST ABOUT BEING A PLANT PERSON?
L: For me it’s very relaxing taking care of my plants and watching them grow. I also really love taking photos, and plants make the best models.
W&L: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU HAVE WITH PLANTS?
L: The biggest challenge is taking care of my plants in winter.
W&L: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR PLANT SPECIALITY?
L: Buying them? Is that a specialty?
W&L: WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 PLANT CARE TIPS?
1. Don’t over water.
2. Know the care of every plant you take home.
3. look at your plants, they will let you know if they need something if you look closely.
