The rubber plant is one of our favorite houseplants. Hardy, gorgeous, and easy to take care of, the Tineke (variegated) variety has the same routine but offers more color and character. When it comes to light, this plant is not very picky. It will survive in low light but in order for it to truly thrive and keep its beautiful variegation on its leaves, bright indirect sunlight is necessary.
Our ficus tineke plant is grown by a Southern Florida family nursery that has specialized in ficus, dracaena, and cacti for over 30 years. The company's 25 acres of shade houses are a testament to hard work - what started with an immigrant family's small nursery has bloomed into one of the country's largest growers of tropical indoor houseplants. The company grows and stocks classic favorites such as the dracaena mass cane, to newer more coveted houseplants such as philodendron monstera adansonii and ficus audrey.
Watering requirements for this plant depend on the season. During the growing season the plant needs to be kept moist, so watering every 5 to 7 days is ideal. During the dormant season the plant requires less water, so watering every 10 to 14 days is sufficient. Keep in mind that this plant is sensitive to overwatering and susceptible to root rot. When in doubt, less is more.
Make sure to wipe off the leaves of your ficus with a damp paper towel or a cloth. Getting rid of the dust will ensure that your plant absorbs the optimal amount of light.
We recommend to fertilize ficus Tineke once in the spring and once in the late summer. Indoors, Ficus Tineke can grow up to 8-12’ tall but it’s not a fast grower. When repotting this plant, we recommend using a pot 2-4 inches larger in diameter than the current pot to provide enough room for growth.
While Ficus Tineke is a very hardy plant, it is not immune to pests. Check your plants for pests regularly to identify and treat any pest problems early on. You can refer to our PLANT PESTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM article for more in-depth information on pests.

For an overview on how we ship plants to you, see our guide here. All items are shipped from Florida on Mondays or Tuesdays to allow for maximum continuous transit time while avoiding time spent sitting in warehouses, trucks, or other distribution points over the weekend. Depending on your location and the weather conditions across the country, we may be forced to hold on shipping until conditions improve as we have had items freeze while sitting in Chicago for four days and get delayed due to heavy holiday volume (Mother's Day, Christmas, etc.). We will make every attempt to ship your item promptly on the very next Monday or Tuesday given that there are no anomalies in shipping conditions.
Items received in a damaged condition will be refunded immediately as we investigate the cause of the issue with the shipper. Returns will not be accepted, please dispose of any unusable items after they have been refunded.
