Water & Light Plant Shop's Variegated Monstera (Thai Constellation) Plant. We're not sure which constellations they're seeing over in Thailand, but their plant game is fire. Free shipping on all orders.

The Thai Constellation or variegated monstera is a rare tropical plant native to Southeast Asia but can be found in similar climates around the world. Known for its elusiveness and beautiful patterned leaves, this plant is similar to its all-green sister (monstera deliciosa) in terms of watering and lighting requirements. A fast grower, this unique specimen is sure to impress.

Our 8-10" tall Thai Constellation monstera cutting has been grown in Thailand and shipped directly to you as a cutting. This cutting will require you to soak it in water for several weeks in order for it to take root.  Once roots have formed, you may then transplant the monstera into your favorite small planter at home.  Please see the Care and Maintenance section below for additional details.

Supplies are limited and not available year round, get yours while available.

  • This item arrives as a cutting directly from Thailand with growth node but no roots.  The cutting will be approximately 8-10" in length with 2-3 leaves.
  • Once package is received, immediately open and place the growth node into a vase with water like you would put a bouquet of flowers into water.  Allow the cutting to remain in the water for several weeks (anywhere between 3-6), switching the water every week to avoid growing any mold/algae.  Be sure to clean out the vase between refills.
  • After a few weeks, roots will begin to grow out of the growth node and will be visible to the eye.  Allow the roots to grow until they are 1/4" thick and 4-5" long.  There should be numerous roots, anywhere between 10-30 individual shoots.
  • Once roots have reached the length and thickness noted above, prepare a planter with drainage hole by placing 3-4" of dirt in the bottom.  Remove the cutting from the vase and gently place the growth node and roots on top of the dirt.  Spread the roots out with your fingers and gently fill an additional 2" of dirt onto the top of the roots until the pot is almost full. You will want the dirt to be about 1" from the lip of the pot.
  • Gently tamp the dirt down around the roots and ensure the plant is secure in the pot and can stand on its own.  If the plant is not upright, add additional dirt around the sides of the pot and tamp down gently while straightening the plant.  Place a wooden stake or dowel straight down into the dirt next to the stalk of the plant and gently tie string around the plant stalk and stake if you are still having issues with the plant staying upright.
  • Once planted, water the plant thoroughly and allow excess water to drain out the drainage hole.  You may use a bit of plant food if desired.
  • Clean leaves with damp paper towel or coconut oil every 1-2 weeks to aid photosynthesis and stimulate growth. Check leaves and stalks for pests while cleaning. For more information on the importance of cleaning leaves, read our guide here.
  • If pests are found, remove with damp paper towel and use a mild organic pesticide in a spray bottle to coat the affected areas. More information on common pest problems can be found here.
  • Toxic to pets, contact your veterinarian in the event that sap, leaves, or any part of plant is ingested.
  • Water thoroughly once every 7-10 days, however avoid overwatering. You can read some fundamental rules of watering here.
  • Medium to high indirect light, avoid windows as they amplify the sun's intensity and create heat that may damage plant. You can find our plant placement guidelines here

For an overview on how we ship plants to you, see our guide here. This cutting is shipped directly to you by air from Thailand and should be received and opened immediately. Depending on your location and the weather conditions across the country, we may be forced to hold on shipping until conditions improve as we have had items freeze while sitting in Chicago for four days and get delayed due to heavy holiday volume (Mother's Day, Christmas, etc.).  We will make every attempt to ship your item promptly as soon as possible given that there are no anomalies in shipping conditions.

Items received in a damaged condition will be refunded immediately as we investigate the cause of the issue with the shipper.  Returns will not be accepted, please dispose of any unusable items after they have been refunded.
