Cereus Peruvianus (Peruvian Apple Cactus) is native to Peru and often sends off a large white flower in the shape of an apple during the growing season. A lover of dry, hot air, this plant will store water in its fleshy green trunk, so best to forget this plant for a month and water thoroughly when you do so as to mimic the torrential downpours of its natural habitat. Just be sure to let the soil drain well - if transplanted into a different vessel, be sure it either has ample drainage or the soil is allowed to dry out very well. While technically safe for pets, fluffy may find himself with a few scratches if left to explore this plant's environment. Check out our write up in New York Magazine for more insights!
