The Rubber Plant is one of our favorite houseplants - it’s hardy, gorgeous, and easy to take care of. The Tineke variety has the same care routine and offers more color and character. When it comes to light, this plant is not very picky. It will survive in low light, but in order for this plant to truly thrive and keep the beautiful variegation on its leaves, bright indirect sunlight is necessary.
Watering requirements for this plant depend on the season. During the growing season the plant needs to be kept moist, so watering every 5 to 7 days is ideal. During the dormant season the plant requires less water, so watering every 10 to 14 days is sufficient. Keep in mind that this plant is sensitive to overwatering and susceptible to root rot. When in doubt, less is more.
Make sure to wipe off the leaves of your ficus with a damp paper towel or a cloth. Getting rid of the dust will ensure that your plant absorbs the optimal amount of light.
We recommend to fertilize ficus Tineke once in the spring and once in the late summer. Indoors, Ficus Tineke can grow up to 8-12’ tall but it’s not a fast grower. When repotting this plant, we recommend using a pot 2-4 inches larger in diameter than the current pot to provide enough room for growth.
While Ficus Tineke is a very hardy plant, it is not immune to pests. Check your plants for pests regularly to identify and treat any pest problems early on. You can refer to our PLANT PESTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM article for more in-depth information on pests.
